Research – Main purpose of a music video.

Hello and welcome to my first blogpost. Why is it that musicians and artists feel the need to visualise their music? What is the point of a music video? Is there any need for a music video if everyone buys their music of iTunes and then just plug their headphones in? These are some of the questions I’ll explore and answer in today’s blog. The main purpose of a music video is to sell the song to an audience. An eye catching music video often times leads people to not only buy your music but also spread the video to their friends through social media and word of mouth. This allows the artist to generate revenue and invokes a reaction that makes people want to come back. It helps provide the viewer a better understanding of what the subject matter of the song is and allows the artist to connect with their audience both visually and audibly.Music videos give artists a platform to showcase any other talents they may have i.e dancing and to help widen their reach across different audiences. However all these reasons lead to one end product; promotion. Music videos are promotional tools that allow the artist to gather more attention from audiences and record labels and maximise any potential revenue through sales, downloads and guest performances.
